Meeting: The December meeting will be held at the Alpine Inn at 6 PM on Thursday, December 8^th. Please RSVP if to this email if you are planning on attending the December meeting so we can give the Alpine Inn an accurate count of how many people will be there.

Old Business: If you would like your Corvette in the 2012 Black Hills Corvette Calendar please email your picture to Kim as soon as possible so she can get the calendar put together.

New Business:

Christmas Party: The Black Hills Corvette Club Christmas party will be held on Saturday, January 14^th at the K Bar S Lodge in Keystone. The meal will be $20.00 per person which includes the tax and gratuity. The buffet meal will consist of: Herb Crusted Pork Tenderloin, Roast Turkey Breast, Orange Salad, Butter Parsley Potatoes, Glazed Carrots, Dessert, Coffee and Tea. There will also be a cash bar during dinner. Please RSVP to this email if you are planning on attending and either mail your check for the meal to Bob, or bring your check to the December meeting.

If you would like to stay overnight at the K Bar S the rooms will be the same price as last year, $69.99 plus tax. Please make your reservations by calling, 605-666-454 between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM and mention the Black Hills Corvette Club. These rooms can be paid for when you check out on Sunday morning.

Everyone attending the Christmas party should bring a wrapped gift for the gift exchange with a value of each gift around $15. Mark the gifts male or female if necessary.

We will have more information on the Christmas party at the December meeting.

Counts of the Cobblestone Car Show: The Counts Car Show will be held on February 17, 18 and 19^, 2012. The entry fee for the show is $40.00 per car with the deadline for entry into the show being February 1^st. We have not decided at this point if the BHCC will enter the show, we will discuss this at the December meeting.

Checking Account: Bob reported that after talking with our bank that they changed our account to an interest bearing account with no monthly fees so we will not be changing banks.

50/50 Drawing: Clara won $13.00 in the 50/50 drawing at the November meeting. We had 27 members that attended our meeting at the Alpine Inn.

New Rides: Below is a picture of Glen’s 2010 Grand Sport that he recently purchased.

Below is a picture of Bruce and Susan with their 1999 Corvette that they recently purchased, as Bruce says the Converse Red high tops are back!

Past Events: Thanks to Larry B. for setting up the poker run that was held on September 18^th. Eight Corvettes took part in the poker run with the following winners:

Lincoln Highway: Bruce and Susan returned from a eight day drive on Lincoln Highway (Old Highway 30), which as Bruce stated is a 1200 mile trip that turned into 2300 miles. Bruce reported that they traded in their Corvette for a Tony Stewart Monte Carlo, but within a few days of the October meeting they again were proud Corvette owners with the purchase of a 1999 C5 Red Corvette.

Black Hills Run: Thanks to Ken and Barb for setting up the Run through the Black Hills. Eleven Corvettes participated.

New Business: Bill N. made a motion that Bob B. look into moving our checking account to a bank that will not charge a monthly service fee, the motion was seconded by Bruce, motion carried unanimously.

Thanksgiving at Bakers: Bob and Kim will again be hosting Thanksgiving Dinner for the Black Hills Corvette Club on Saturday, November 12^th at noon. Please RSVP to Bob and Kim if you are planning on attending and also let them know what dish you will bring to pass. The Club will furnish the Turkey, plates and silverware.

Christmas Party: The Black Hills Corvette Club Christmas party will be held on Saturday, January 14^th at the K Bar S Lodge. More information to follow.

Last Nice Day of Fall Cruise: Be watching for an email for the Last Nice Day of Fall Cruise.

Calendar for 2012: If you would like your Corvette in the 2012 Black Hills Corvette Club calendar, email a picture to Kim by mid November. The calendars should be ready for the Christmas Party in January.

Dues for 2012: Dues for the Black Hills Corvette Club can be paid to Bob B. The dues are $20 for 2012.

50/50 Drawing: Lisa won $15.00 in the 50/50 drawing at the October meeting. We had 31 members at the October meeting at the Elks.

Meeting: The October meeting will be held at the Elks Lodge on October 13^th at 6PM.

Past Events: Special thanks to the Dairy Queen for hosting our September meeting. We had 17 Corvettes and 1 Camaro for the car show. The Dairy Queen provided several door prizes with the following members winning prizes: Greg, Cliff, Kim, Lee P., Barb, Bill, Bill, Clara, Bob, Karla, Nancy, Chuck, Lee and Haldene. We took a short drive through town on Skyline Drive after our meeting.

Devils Tower: Larry led a group of 7 Corvettes to Devils Tower.

Upcoming Events: Larry has set up a poker run for this Sunday, September 18^th at 2 PM. Meet at Reptile Gardens for a chance to win $100 in prizes.

Alpine Inn: We will be having our November meeting at the Alpine Inn, more details to follow.

50/50: Bob won $16.50 in the 50/50 drawing at the September meeting. We had 35 members at our September meeting.

New Member: Please welcome new member Greg D. from Rapid City who joined the club at our September meeting. Greg drives a 98 convertible with Iraqi Freedom Veteran Plate.

Hint of the month: Bill suggested that we have a hint of the month for our Corvettes. If you have any hints that you have from your years of experience with Corvettes please email them to me and I will add one or two to each monthly newsletter.

Meeting: The September meeting will be held at the Dairy Queen at 3535 Canyon Lake Drive on Thursday, September 8^th, at 5PM. The Dairy Queen has asked us to do a car show which will begin at 5 PM, (Come when you can if you can’t make it right at 5), then we will eat dinner and have our meeting and maybe a short drive after the meeting. Remember to come to the Dairy Queen from the east due to the road construction.

Past Events: On July 22,23 and 24^th three Corvettes and a Suburban traveled to Ankeny, Iowa to participate in the Albaugh Museum open house and car show. (Lee and Kathy, Cliff and Lisa, Lee and Kay and Dan and Karla). Dennis Albaugh’s personal Chevrolet Convertible collection and over 350 cars participated in the car show, with this being a great opportunity to view one of the premier collections of Chevrolets from 1912 to 1975.

Ft. Robinson: On July 30^th, seven Corvettes drove to Hot Springs, then on to Ft. Robinson for lunch, (Lee and Kathy, Larry and Darlene, Chuck, Bill and Clara, Bruce and Susan, Bob and Judy and Gene and Jan). After lunch they walked through one of the Fort Museums, then on the road again, through the Canyon and on to Lusk, Wyoming, then to Pringle, SD for dinner. This trip totaled about 350 miles on a very hot day.

New Events: Kool Deadwood Nights is this weekend, August 27 and 28^th. On Sunday morning we will meet for breakfast at First Gold at 8 AM. After breakfast we will watch the parade of cars which begins at 9 AM. Please RSVP to this email by Thursday evening if you plan on attending breakfast so we can give them a count of how many people we will have. We will just plan on meeting at First Gold rather than driving up together.

Poker Run: Larry is planning a poker run for Sunday, September 18^th, that will begin from Reptile Gardens at 2 PM. More details to follow at the September meeting.

Upton, Wyoming car show: The Upton, Wyoming car show is scheduled for Saturday, September 10^th.

50/50: Kay won $12.00 in the 50/50 drawing at the August meeting at Red Rock. Thanks to Lisa for coordinating the meeting at Red Rock, with 25 members attending.

Past Events: The July 4^th cruise had four Corvettes attend with a drive and dinner.

New Events: Seven Vettes from the BHCC will be leaving on Tuesday, July 12^th for Sioux Falls to attend Hot Summer Nights for the beginning of the Black Hills Corvette Classic.

Black Hills Corvette Classic: We will be meeting for supper on Saturday, July 16^th at Shoot the Bull in Spearfish at 5 PM and then attending Vette Street at the Black Hills State parking lot. We need to give Shoot the Bull an accurate count of people that will be attending, please respond to this email by noon on Monday, July 11^th if you plan on attending supper with us.

Chadron Car Show: The Chadron Car Show is today, July 9^th.

Ankeny Trip: We have five Corvettes signed up to attend The Albaugh Classic Car Show on Saturday, July 23^rd. We will be leaving on Friday morning and returning on Sunday. I will send a separate email to those that are going on this trip.

Cruiser Car Show and Street Fair: Destination Rapid City and the Rapid City Police Department will be sponsoring the 2011 Cruiser Car Show and Street Fair on Sunday, July 24^th from 12 to 7 PM on Main Street in Rapid City. There is no fee to enter a car in the show and the registration deadline is July 18^th. You can register at http://www.rcgov.org/Police/form-cruiser-night-registration.html. Ft. Robinson trip: The Fort Robinson Trip is planned for Saturday, July 30^th; the Rapid City group will be meeting at the gas station/convenience store just south of Hermosa on highway 79 at 9 AM. We will then proceed to Hot Springs to Bruce and Susan's house for a stop for coffee, etc., then on to Ft. Robinson for the day.

50/50 Drawing: We had 28 people attend the July meeting at Canyon Lake Park, with Kathy winning the 50/50 drawing of $13.50.

Meeting: The July meeting will be held on Thursday, July 7^th at 6 PM at the Canyon Lake Picnic shelter off of Canyon Lake Drive. (Note the date, normally the meeting is held on the second Thursday but will the Black Hills Corvette Classic being held July 12-16^th we will have our meeting on the first Thursday of the month.) The BHCC will furnish the chicken, please bring a dish to pass, your own utensils and your own drinks.

Birthdays: Happy Birthday to Bill K and Kay P, thanks for bringing the birthday cake to our June picnic.

Past Events: Ken reported that the Spring Fling Car Show on May 28^th at the Pennington County Fairgrounds was well attended with approximately 1400 to 1600 people at the event over the weekend and 103 cars registered for the show.

Nascar trip to Kansas City: Mike and Karen reported on the drive to Kansas City for the Nascar race. Karen was the official guide with the group driving down through Nebraska, making stops along the way and coming home via the interstate.

No Notice First Nice Day of Spring Drive: Four Corvettes and a 39 Ford Coupe went on the first nice day of spring drive on June 5^th. The group left Rapid City and ate at the Sugar Shack and then drove through Spearfish Canyon.

Upcoming Events: June 24^th is the National drive your Corvette to work day.

Sioux Falls Hot Summer Nights: Hot Summer Nights will be held on July 12 through the 14^th in Sioux Falls. These events are the beginning of the Black Hills Corvette Classic. We will be leaving on Tuesday morning at 8 AM from the McDonalds at exit 61 on Interstate 90 and returning to Rapid City on Thursday, July 14^th. Tuesday night is the Picnic at the Falls and Wednesday night is Hot Summer Nights which is held downtown Sioux Falls. I will be making room reservations in Sioux Falls for Lee and Kathy, Cliff and Lisa, Larry and Darlene and Dan and Karla. If anyone else is interested in going let me know by June 22^nd to make sure I can secure rooms. I will be in contact with those that are going for further details of the trip.

Albaugh Classic 2011: The Albaugh Classic fundraising car show will be held on July 23^rd in Ankeny, Iowa. The collection consists of 150 or so Chevrolet only cars, including a convertible from every year from 1953 to 1975. The charge to show a car is $20 or $10 per person to view the private collection of cars. The car show is a benefit for the local high school with the co sponsor of the show being Karl Chevrolet. I have Lee and Kathy, Cliff and Lisa, Bob and Judy, Dan and Karla leaving from Rapid City for the trip and Lee and Kay meeting us in Ankeny on Friday. If anyone else is interested in going let me know by the 22^nd so I can secure rooms for the event.

Upcoming car shows:

The Lead Car Show is July 9^th.

The Chadron Car Show is July 9^th, with over 110 cars being entered in the show last year.

The Scottsbluff Car Show is July 18-19^th.

The Belle Fourche Car Show is July 18-19^th.

The Mystic Lake Casino Car Show is July 29-31^st in Prior Lake, Minnesota.

The Frog Follies Car Show in Evansville, Illinois will be held in late August and the Good Guys Car Show in Indianapolis, Indiana will be late this summer, if anyone is interested in going check with Bruce and Susan.

Fort Robinson: The Black Hills Corvette Club will be taking a day trip to Fort Robinson on Saturday, July 30^th. The Rapid City group will meet at the Hermosa Conoco at 9 AM to travel down to Bruce and Susans home in Hot Springs to meet everyone else at 10 AM.

Cruiser Car Show and Street Fair: Destination Rapid City and the Rapid City Police Department will be sponsoring the 2011 Cruiser Car Show and Street Fair on Sunday, July 24 from 12 to 7 PM. This is the event that was formally known as Cruiser Night. Classic Cars will flood Main Street, and local businesses will present awards for their top car picks. In addition there will be food, live music, auto related vendors and kids activities. Elvis will provide entertainment from 1 – 3 PM, with the car show awards being presented at 3 PM. Headliner DD and the Fayrohs will take the stage from 4 – 7 PM. There is no fee to enter the car show, if you plan to enter a car register with the RCPD website to secure a spot in the show. Meeting: The June meeting will be held at the Old Storybook Island picnic shelter off of Canyon Lake Drive at 6 PM on Thursday, June 9^th. The Black Hills Corvette Club will furnish the chicken, please bring a dish to pass, your own eating utensils and your own drinks.

Welcome Back: Welcome back to Bruce and Susan and Bob and Judy who recently got back to the Black Hills after spending their winter in warmer climates.

Old Business: On Saturday, April 23^rd, five Corvettes left Rapid City for a drive through the Badlands during the free Badlands weekend. On the way back to Rapid City the group stopped in Wall for supper.

New Business: This weekend is the BHCC camping weekend at Horsehead campground at Angostura near Hot Springs. If you would like to come to supper on Saturday night, the BHCC will furnish the brats, bring a dish to pass, your dishes, your drinks and chairs. Supper will be at 6 PM but you can come to the campground anytime during the afternoon. You will need a park sticker to get into the campground. The entrance to the campground is the second entrance off of highway 79 south of Hot Springs near the airport, turn right off of highway 79 to get to the campground and it is all paved roads. Lee and Kathy, Bruce and Susan, Larry and Darlene and Dennis and Nancy will be camping.

Kansas Speedway: Mike and Karen will be leading a trip to the Nascar race in Kansas City on the weekend of June 4 and 5^th. Four or Five Corvettes from the group will be making the trip.

Albaugh Classic 2011: The Albaugh Classic fundraising car show will be held on July 23^rd in Ankeny, Iowa. Also Chevelle and Camero convertibles and trucks and muscle cars will be displayed. The car show will be held on the golf course. The charge to show a car is $20.00 which includes two people or $10.00 per person admission if you don’t want to put your Corvette in the show. All entrants in the car show will receive a 10 x 11 oak plaque with a picture of you in your Corvette and a dash plaque. The show is Co-sponsored by Karl Chevrolet, with all proceeds going to the local high school.

Lee and Kathy, Dan and Karla and Bob and Judy are planning on attending. If anyone else would like to take this trip please respond to this email.

Drive your Corvette to work day: The National drive your Corvette to work day is Friday, June 24^th.

Lakers Mighty Mo Car Show: The 17^th annual Lakers Mighty Mo Car Show will be held on Saturday, June 18^th in Chamberlain. The car show is from 11 AM to 3 PM. The Pepsi Racing Power Cup Challenge will also be held that weekend on the Missouri River.

Chadron car show: The Chadron, Ne. car show will be held on July 9^th.

Dakota Spring Fling in the Black Hills car show: The Dakota Spring Fling car show and swap meet will be held at the Central States Fairgrounds on May 27,28 and 29^th. Ken has been working to help put this car show together which replaces the Black Hills Overdrive Show. The car show is for 1980 and older cars, pickups and bikes.

Black Hills Corvette Classic: The Black Hills Corvette Classic will begin in Sioux Falls on July 12^th and 13^th. Some of our members will be making the trip to Sioux Falls for the events there, if you interested in going to Sioux Falls with the group, reply to this email. We will be making the final plans at the June meeting for those that will be attending.

New business cards: Lee handed out new business cards to each of our members to pass out to prospective new members. Larry also suggested that we look into making new window decals with the new logo.

New members: Welcome new members Lee and Kay from Rapid City. They recently purchased a 2008 Atomic Orange Z06.

Guest: Stever from Mayville, ND attending our meeting as a guest of Chuck. Steve owns two Corvettes.

50/50: Bruce won $10 in our 50/50 drawing at our May meeting. Twenty people attended the meeting.

Meeting: The May meeting is being planned for a possible drive to Pub N Grub at the Steel Wheel Convenience Store just outside of Lead. The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 12^th, I will follow up with the details as the meeting is scheduled.

Old Business:

St. Patrick’s Parade: Mike and Cliff were part of the St. Patrick’s Parade that was held on Saturday, March 19^th.

Crab Legs in Deadwood: Larry and Darlene and Ken and Barb drove to the Gold Dust in Deadwood for all you can eat crab legs. The weather was not the greatest but the crab legs were worth the drive in the less than ideal weather.

New Business:

New Logo: The new logo for the Black Hills Corvette Club was selected and Lee and Kathy brought a shirt with the new logo embroidered on it. Master’s Embroidery on West Chicago Street has the logo for anyone that is interested in purchasing a new shirt with the new logo.

Corvette Colors Discontinued: Cyber Gray and Crystal Red colors have been discontinued for at least the time being for Corvettes due to a shortage in the shiny pigment, Xirallic, which creates the shiny luster used in the shades of metallic automotive paint. The plant that produces the Xirallic pigment is located in Onahama, Japan. The plant was severely affected by the earthquake and tsunami that hit the coast of Japan in early March. Jetstream Blue is also in the process of being phased out in the 2011 production of Corvettes, leaving only seven color choices for Corvette buyers to choose from.

Badlands Drive: This Saturday, April 23^rd, we will be taking a drive through the Badlands. This weekend is the second of the free weekends at the Badlands; we will meet at 2 PM at the Family Thrift parking lot at 1516 East St. Patrick Street. After the drive through the Badlands we will eat supper in Wall.

Camping Weekend: On Saturday, May 14^th Jensen’s, Finch’s, Van Vleet's and Bailly's will be camping at Angostura at the Horsehead Campground. If anyone would like to visit the campground for supper on the evening of the 14^th the club will furnish the brats. Also, bring a dish to pass and your own drinks, utensils and lawn chairs. They will plan on supper being at 6 PM and you can stop down anytime in the afternoon. If you plan on going for supper please email Kathy Jensen at kathy.jensen@teamridco.com so she can get an accurate count of who will be there. You do need a state park sticker to get into the campground.

Murdo car show: The Pioneer Auto Museum in Murdo will be having a free car show on Main Street on Saturday, May 14^th.

Pierre Dam Run: The Street Masters Car Club will be hosting the Pierre Dam Run on August 12-14^th.

Dakota Spring Fling in the Black Hills: The Dakota Spring Fling car show and swap meet will be held at the Central States Fairgrounds on May 27, 28 and 29^th. The public show and shine will be Saturday the 28^th from 10 AM to 4 PM and Sunday the 29^th from 9 AM to 2 PM. The car show is for 1980 and older Classics, Hot Rods, Rat Rods, Custom Cars, Muscle Cars, Rat Bikes, Custom Bikes and Pickups.

Chase County Corvette Classic: The 8^th annual Harchelroad Motors Chase County Corvette Classic will be held on Saturday, August 20^th at Imperial, Nebraska.

Medora Antique Classic Car Show: The Medora antique classic car show will be held on Saturday, June 25^th on Main Street and the Community Events Center.

Gillette Car Show: The Energy Capital of the Nation Car Show will be held in Gillette, Wyoming on Saturday and Sunday, June 4^th and 5^th.

Baker Car Show: The Baker, Montana Car Show will be held on Saturday, June 4^th.

Custer Car Show: The Custer Car Show will be held the last weekend of July. More details to follow.

Ft. Robinson: Larry and Darlene are planning a possible trip to Ft. Robinson and Carhenge in late July.

Rodz and Ridez Car show: The Rodz and Ridez 5^th annual car show and poker run will by Saturday, July 9^th in Lusk, Wyoming. The Car show is scheduled for 9 AM to 1 PM and the poker run is scheduled for 1 PM to 3 PM with the awards presentation following the poker run at the Fairgrounds. The parade follows the awards at 4 PM.

No Notice First Nice Day of the Spring Drive: Be watching for an email for the No notice first nice day of the spring drive.

July and August Meeting: Karen will be checking on securing the picnic shelter at the Old Storybook Island for our July and August meetings.

50/50: 26 members attended our April meeting with Marsha winning $14.50 in the 50/50 drawing.

Meeting:  The April meeting will be held at the Elks Lodge on Thursday, April 14^th at 6 PM.

Past Business:  We received a Thank You card from the K Bar S Lodge for having our Christmas Party at the Lodge.

Beau Jo’s: On February 26^th we met at Beau Jo’s for supper and then attended the Counts Car Show as spectators. 

St. Patrick’s Day Parade: The Dakota Celts sponsored the St. Patrick’s Day parade and asked the Black Hills Corvette Club if we would be interested in having some of our Corvettes in the parade on Saturday, March 19^th. 

New Business:  The Spring Fling Car Show will be held on Memorial Day weekend at the Fairgrounds on May 27-29^th.

Campers weekend:  Jensens, Finchs, Baillys and Van Vleets are planning a campers weekend at Angostura on May 14^th.  If anyone else is interested contact Lee or Kathy.

Pierre Dam Run:  The Street Masters Dam Run in Pierre is scheduled for August 13-14^th.  Also, in Pierre on the 18^th of June is the 3^rd annual Dave Graves memorial Corvette/Mustang Rally.

Crab Legs at Gold Dust:  The Black Hills Corvette Club will be meeting at the Gold Dust in Deadwood on Saturday, March 26^th at 5 PM for all you can eat crab legs.

Badlands:  The Badlands free weekend is April 16-17^th.   The club is planning a drive through the Badlands on either that Saturday or Sunday.

Automania in Sioux Falls:  The Automania Car Show will be held in Sioux Falls on June 24,25 and 26^th.  Bill and Clara are planning on attending the show, if you are interested in attending contact Bill or Clara.

Drive your Corvette to work day:  National Drive your Corvette to work day is scheduled for Friday, June 24^th.

Nascar in Kansas City:  Mike and Karen have put a trip together to Kansas City to attend the Nascar race on June 5^th.  We have four Corvettes that are planning on taking this trip.

50/50: We had 24 members that attended the March meeting at the Pizza Ranch.  Chuck won $12.00 in the 50/50 drawing.

Meeting: The March meeting will be held on Thursday, March 10^th at 6 PM at either the Elks Lodge or at Pizza Ranch.  I will send a follow up email out with the location of the meeting when it is set up.

Past Events:  The Christmas party was held at the K Bar S Lodge on January 29^th with 20 people attending.  The election of officers was held for the 2011 year with Mike making a motion to leave all officers the same for this year.  The motion was seconded by Bill, with a unanimous vote to leave all officers in place.  The gift exchange was held with many gifts being exchanged the maximum of two times.  The drawing for the 50/50 money was as follows:  $75.00 to Bill , $50.00 to Lisa and $28.00 to Karen.

Lee thanked all of the officers for their work in 2010 and also thanked everyone that led an event during each of the months in 2010.

Dues:  The dues for 2011 are again $20.00, if you haven’t paid your dues they can be sent to Bob.

Upcoming Events:  This Saturday, February 19^th, the Black Hills Corvette Club will be going to the “all you can eat crab legs” at the Gold Dust in Deadwood.  If you would like to drive with the club we will be meeting at the Windmill truckstop at 4 PM with an arrival time in Deadwood at 5 PM.  If you were not at the meeting but are planning on attending, please call Barb so she can give them an accurate count.  We had 12 people at the meeting that showed interest in going.

Counts Car Show:  We will be meeting at Beau Jo’s on West Main Street at 5 PM for supper and then going to the car show after we eat.  The Black Hills Corvette Club will not be putting a display in the show this year but if anyone would like to put their Corvette in the show you can use the clubs booth items.

Memorial Day Car Show:   There is a car show at the Fairgrounds on Friday, Saturday and Sunday Memorial weekend, May 27 – 29^th.  The show is for cars 1980 or older.

Nascar in Kansas City:  Mike and Karen are planning on going to the Nascar race in Kansas City on June 5^th.  The plan on leaving on Friday and coming back home on Monday.   There are 4 or 5 couples planning on taking this trip.

Meeting:  The February meeting will be held at the Elk’s Lodge at 6 PM on Thursday, February 10^th.

Dues:  If you haven’t paid your dues for 2011 you can mail your check to Bob.  The dues for 2011 are again $20.00.

Calendars:  If you would like a Black Hills Corvette Club calendar for 2011 contact Kim and she will get one to you, the cost is $10 per calendar.

Christmas Party:  The Black Hills Corvette Club Christmas Party will be held at the K Bar S Lodge on Saturday, January 29^th.  The meal is $20 per person which includes tax and gratuity.  The buffet menu is:  Potato Crusted Cod, Ham, Cheesy shredded potatoes, Green beans almandine, Orange lettuce salad and dessert.  There will be a cash bar ½ hour before and also during the meal.  Reservations with your check can be sent to Bob.  We need to have a total count of people by Tuesday, January 18^th so either send your check to Bob or respond to this email if you plan on attending. 

There is a special rate for our Christmas party at the Lodge if you would like to stay the night of the party. The rate is $69.99 plus tax, which includes the breakfast in the morning.  The room can be paid for when you check out on Sunday morning.  To make your reservation, call 605-666-4545, weekdays from 8 AM to 5 PM, and mention the Black Hills Corvette Christmas Party.

We will meet at the K Bar S Lodge around 3 PM for a social gathering with supper being at 5:30 PM, and then returning to the lobby for the Christmas gift exchange.  Everyone attending the party will need to bring a wrapped gift for the exchange with the value being around $15.00, mark the gifts male or female if necessary.  Bring your favorite Christmas cookies or snacks for the social gathering if you would like.

Counts Car Show:  It was decided that we will not be putting a display of Corvettes in the Counts Car Show but will instead meet for supper on Saturday night, February 26^th, at 5 PM at Beau Jo’s on West Main Street and after eating we will attend the car show.

Crab legs in Deadwood:  We will be heading to the Gold Dust on Saturday, February 19^th for all you can eat Crab legs at the Gold Dust in Deadwood.  We will meet at the Windmill at 4 PM to arrive in Deadwood around 5 PM supper. We will need a count on those who will be attending so please respond to this email if you plan on attending.

Save the Dates:  The Black Hills Corvette Classic will be held on July 12^th through the 16^th.  We will be heading to Sioux Falls for Hot Summer Nights on Tuesday and Wednesday the 12^th and 13^th.

The Car show at Imperial, Nebraska is August 19^th.

The Street Masters Car Club of Pierre will be hosting the Pierre Dam Run on August 12-14^th.  We might also consider going over to Pierre for the Oahe Drags sometime this summer.

Back to the 50’s Car Show at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds is June 17-19^th

The free National Parks week is April 16 through the 24^th. We are looking at taking a cruise through the Badlands during this time.

The free State Parks weekend is May 21 through the 23^rd, again planning a cruise through the State Parks throughout the Black Hills.

2011 Counts of the Cobblestone Car Show:  The Counts of the Cobblestone car show is scheduled for February 25, 26 and 27, 2011 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.  More details will follow at the December meeting.

Meeting:  The October meeting will be held on Thursday, October 14^th.  I will email the location and details when the meeting site is finalized.

Past Events:  Four Corvettes from the Black Hills Corvette Club attended the Chase County Corvette Classic at Harchelroad Motors in Imperial, Nebraska from August 20^th to the 22^nd.  Other than the heat it was a very good event with Corvettes and Cameros at the Classic. I understand the Nebraska State Troopers visited with Lee, but only gave him a warning ticket.

Kool Deadwood Nites:  30 members of the Black Hills Corvette Club met at Cadillac Jack’s for breakfast on August 29^th and attended the parade and show and shine on Main Street in Deadwood.

Devils Tower Car Show:  Thanks to Larry and Darlene for leading a group of 10 Corvettes from the club to the Devils Tower Car Show on September 4^th.  The group ate lunch at the Golf Course at Devils Tower and then ate supper at Lewie’s Burgers and Brews in Lead.  Also, special thanks to Ken for taking the group and some roads that no one had ever been on before, (at least that’s what Larry says).

Upcoming Events:  This Sunday, September 12^th is the time and distance run that Larry has set up.  For those going on the run, meet at the Visitor Center on I 90 at 1:30 PM on Sunday afternoon.  If you haven’t let Larry know that you will be attending by Saturday afternoon.  If you can’t attend the run but would like to meet for supper with the group contact Larry and he will give you the information as to where we will be eating after the run.

Beanery Dinner and Show:  The club is looking at attending the Beanery Dinner and Show on November 12 or 13^th if there is interest in going.  The Potter family will be providing the Entertainment for the evening.  If anyone is interested in going please let me know by responding to this email.

New Black Hills Corvette Club Shirts:   The Club is looking at coming up with a new design for a Black Hills Corvette Club shirt so that we can all wear the same shirts while attending different events.  We would like everyone to come up with a design of a new logo for the shirts and submit them at the November meeting.  There will be a committee that will narrow the designs down to 2 or 3 and then the Club members will vote on the winning design at the Christmas Party.  There will be a prize for the winning design.

Zonta Expo and Guys Night Out:  The Zonta Expo at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center is scheduled for October 7^th for the ladies. If any of the ladies have not purchased their tickets but would like to attend, contact Karen.

For any of the guys that will be left home alone while the ladies are at the Zonta Expo we will be meeting at Thirsty’s for supper at 6 PM.  Respond to this email if you are thinking of joining us for supper so I can give Thirsty’s an idea of how many of us will be there.

Just for fun:                              Get out of the Car!!

(This is supposedly a true account recorded in the Police Log of Sarasota, Florida)

An elderly Florida lady did her shopping and upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle. 

She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her lungs, “I have a gun, and I know how to use it!  Get out of the car!”

The four men didn’t wait for a second threat.  They got out and ran like mad.

The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into the driver’s seat.  She was so shaken she could not get her key into the ignition.

She tried and tried, and then she realized why.  It was for the same reason she had wondered why there was a football, a Frisbee and two 12-packs of beer in the front seat.

A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down.

She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station to report her mistake.

The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn’t stop laughing.

He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a carjacking by a mad, elderly women described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun.

No charges were filed.

The Moral of the story?

If you are going to have a senior moment….make it memorable.

Meeting:  The September meeting is being planned for the Pub N Grub at the Steel Wheel Convenience Store near Lead/Deadwood on Hwy 385.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, September 9^th, we will plan on meeting in the parking lot at Blessed Sacrament Church on Hwy 44 across from Canyon Lake and caravanning to Pub N Grub.  I will send another email on the meeting once everything is finalized.

Past Events:  There were 38 people that attended our July meeting at the Old Storybook Island shelter.  Thanks to Karen  for setting up the shelter for the June and July meeting.

Custer Car Show:  The Custer Car Show was held on July 24^th with six cars from the Black Hills Corvette Club attending.  The group stopped at the Powderhouse for supper on the way back to Rapid City.

Sept. 7^th ride:  Thanks to Mike and Karen for setting up the Corvette ride on September 7^th.  Five cars took the drive for the day and then ended up at the Elks for supper.

Pierre Dam Run:  Bill and Clara and Ken and Barb attended the Pierre Dam Run and car show on August 13-15^th.

Chase County Corvette Classic:  Lee and Kathy, Larry and Darlene, Bruce and Susan and Bob and Judy attended the Chase County Corvette Classic at Harchelroad Motors in Imperial, NE leaving Friday, August 20^th and returning to Rapid City on Sunday, August 22^nd.

Upcoming Events:  Kool Deadwood Nights is August 27-29^th.  The Black Hills Corvette Club is planning on meeting for Breakfast on Sunday morning at 8 AM at Cadillac Jack’s and then watching the parade and attending the Show and Shine on Main Street following the parade.

Corvettes and Presidents:  Dakota Corvettes is hosting the 10^th Corvettes and Presidents gathering at the K Bar S Lodge on September 23-25^th.  If anyone is interested on attending this event please contact Kim B.  There are approximately 35 Corvettes registered for the event which includes a social gathering on Friday night, a Corvette Cruise and Banquet on Saturday Night and a drive and lunch on Sunday before everyone heads for home. 

Time and Distance Run:  Larry has set up the Time and Distance Run for the afternoon of Sunday, September 12^th.  Larry will need to know who will be participating before or at our September meeting so that he can have the correct number of packets ready for the run.  If you know that you will be participating in the event please email me so I can start a list for Larry.

September Falls Colors Run:  Roger has been planning the Fall Colors Run for September.  I will forward more information when it becomes available.

Winter Meetings:  We are looking at setting up the Black Hills Corvette Club meetings for the months on October through February either at the new Pizza Ranch or the Elks.

Meeting: The June meeting will be held at the Dairy Queen on Canyon Lake Drive on Thursday, June 10^th  at 5:30.  The Dairy Queen has asked the Club to have a Corvette Show on their lot so we will have our June meeting there.  We will plan on leaving from the Dairy Queen about 7:30 and going for a drive on Hwy 44 to Hwy 385 and back to Rapid City on Hwy 16.

Upcoming Events:  The time and distance run that was scheduled for this Sunday, May 23^rd has been postponed to a later date.  We will reschedule the event for later this summer.

Cruiser Night:  June 12^th is Cruiser Night in Rapid City; we will meet at the Sports Buzz on Mt. Rushmore Road at 5:30 and have dinner.  We will have the same room that we have used in the past and the patio will be open so we can sit outside if you wish.  The Sports Buzz is also hosting a group of Muscle cars for the evening, making it an evening of “Corvettes and Muscle Cars.”

Black Hills Corvette Classic:  We are planning on driving over to Sioux Falls for the first two days of the Black Hills Corvette Classic.  We will leave for Sioux Falls on Tuesday morning, July 13^th, meeting at the McDonalds at exit 61.  The events on Tuesday include registration at Billion Chevrolet, an Autocross at the Sioux Falls Fairgrounds, Vettes at the Falls Picnic at Falls Park and a Laser Light show at dusk.  Wednesdays events include a Charity Poker Run, the gathering of Corvettes at Billion Chevrolet between 1 and 4, a Funkana at Billion Chevrolet, fun, food and door prizes at Billion Chevrolet, and concluding with Hot Summer Nights downtown Sioux Falls which will include Corvettes and Harleys.  I have blocked off rooms at the Best Western Empire Towers which is right across from the Empire Mall.  If you are interested in going please email me at and I will get you set up with a room.  We will head back to Rapid City on Thursday morning, probably bringing up the rear of the Corvette Caravan.

Chadron Car Show:  The Chadron Car Show will be on July 10^th; including the Chadron Corvette Club they are expecting approximately 200 cars for the show.

50/50:  We had thirty five people at the May meeting with Bob B winning the 50/50 drawing and taking home $15.00 in winnings.

Meeting:  The May Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 13^th at Pub N Grub on Highway 385 next to the Steel Wheel Convenience Store.  We are planning on meeting somewhere near Rapid City and caravanning to the Pub N Grub.  I will send a separate email with the details and times.

Tom J. thanked the Black Hills Corvette Club for the memorial brick that was placed at the National Corvette Museum in memory of Mary.  Tom also received a duplicate brick that was presented to him by Lee, Bob and Kim.

Upcoming Events:  The Dairy Queen on Canyon Lake Drive would like us to have a Show and Shine sometime this summer on a Saturday afternoon.  Lee will get this set up with the Dairy Queen.

June 12^th is Rapid City Cruiser Night with the parade down Mt. Rushmore Road that evening.  The Club is looking for a place that we could all meet for supper and park our Corvettes and watch the Cruiser Night parade of cars.  Lee is working on setting this up.

Friday, June 25^th is Drive your Corvette to work day.

Larry is setting up the Time and Distance Run for May 23^rd.  More information will follow when the details are worked out.

Past Events:  On February 27^th, eight people from the club drove to Spearfish and had lunch at Guadalajara Restaurant. 

The Counts Car Show was held on March 5^th, 6^th and 7^th at the Civic Center.  Thanks to all who helped set up, worked the booth and helped take the booth down.  Special thanks to Bill N. and Ken for organizing the show for the club.

Thanks to Bill K, Larry and Rick W. for displaying their cars at the show.  We had two new members join the club at the car show.

Darlene suggested looking at updating the booth that we use for the car shows.  We are getting ideas for a new banner and possibly powder coating the bases for the display.

On the banner we are looking at using the original club emblem and also the current club emblem along with the Corvette generation emblems.  The size will be approximately 3 feet by 4 feet.

Dakota Classic Cruisers 5^th Anniversary Car show will be held in Stickney, SD on Saturday, May 15, 2010.

Campbell County Classics and Customs present the 28^th annual Energy Capital of the Nation Car Show in Gillette, Wyoming on June 5^th and 6^th.

The Mile High Show and Shine will be held on Saturday, July 3^rd in Lead, South Dakota.

The Wright Auto Parts Show and Shine will be held on July 17^th in Wright, Wyoming.

Bear Country’s All Car Show and Shine will be held on Saturday, September 18^th in Rapid City, SD at Bear Country.

Meeting:  The March meeting will be held on Thursday, March 11^th at 6 PM at the Sports Buzz Restaurant on Mt. Rushmore Road.

Past Events:  The Christmas Party was held on January 30^th at the K Bar S Lodge.  30 people attended the Christmas Party and again the gift exchange was quite entertaining with several gifts being exchanged the maximum of three times.  The election of officers was held for 2010 with the following people being elected unanimously:

President:  Lee re-elected, nominated by Larry, seconded by Wayne.

Vice President: Ken elected, nominated by Mike, seconded by Roger.

Treasurer: Bob re-elected, nominated by Wayne, seconded by Larry.

Secretary: Dan re-elected, nominated by Mike, seconded by Bob.

Historian: Darlene re-elected, nominated by Bob, seconded by Kathy.

Webmaster: Mike elected, nominated by Darlene, seconded by Bob.

It was also agreed that a Social Committee should be set up to come up with ideas for a social event each month.  It was decided that the committee will consist of the officer’s spouses.  The members of the committee are Kathy, Barb, Kim, Karla, Larry and Karen.

The year end 50/50 drawings were held with the following winners:

1^st prize- $65 to Ken Y

2^nd prize- $34 to Barb Y

3^rd prize- $30 to Clara N

New Business:  The Counts Car Show will be March 5^th, 6^th and 7^th.  Bill is coordinated our display for the show.  Setup begins at noon on Thursday, March 4^th, if you can help set up our display meet Bill at the Civic Center around noon. 

Bill reported that we will have 4 to 6 C3 Corvettes in our display.  We will meet for supper on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the following locations:

Thursday, March 4^th at Boston’s at 6 PM.

Friday, March 5^th at Parkway Restaurant at 6 PM.

Saturday, March 6^th at Sanford’s at 4 PM, and afterwards the awards ceremony at 6 PM for those that are interested in attending.

Upcoming Events:  Lee and Kathy are working on the trip to Ankeny, Iowa the first week of August.  On August 8^th there is a car show that benefits the local high school and if you enter your car in the show you get to view the private collection of convertibles that many of you have seen pictures of on the internet.  The cost to enter the car show is $20.

The 2010 Black Hills Corvette Classic is set for July 13-18^th.  We will be planning events along with the Classic including a trip over to Sioux Falls to attend Hot Summer Nights on Wednesday, July 14^th and then caravanning back to Rapid City on Thursday, July 15^th.

Thunder on the Prairie:  The Route 385 Cruisers from Alliance, Nebraska are having a Rod Run on June 4, 5, and 6^th at Central Park in Alliance, NE.  The car show is Saturday, June 5^th from 11 AM to 5 PM.   On Sunday, June 6^th they are planning a poker run at 9:30 AM and the awards ceremony to follow at 11 AM.

Black Hills Overdrive:  Black Hills Overdrive 2010 will be held June 10 thru the 13rd.   More information to follow.

Corvettes at Lake Tahoe Car Show:  If anyone is looking for a longer trip to a Corvette car show the Lake Tahoe Corvette Car Show is June 18 through the 20^th. 

Looking Glass Corvette Association: The Looking Glass Corvette Association is having a Corvette car show in Ft. Lupton, Colorado on July 10^th at Purifoy Chevrolet to celebrate Purifoy Chevrolet’s 50^th anniversary in business and their 25^th year of sponsoring the Looking Glass Corvette Association.  The cost is $5 per person to attend.

The 2^nd annual Cody trip will again be led by Roger and Renee.  They are planning the trip around the 3^rd weekend of September.

Meeting:  The February meeting will be held on Thursday, February 11^th at 6 PM at the Sports Buzz Restaurant at 2101 Mt. Rushmore Road.

Calendars:   The 2010 Black Hills Corvette Calendars are still available for $10 each.  If you would like one contact Kim.

Dues:   Bob is collecting dues for 2010.  Our dues are again $20 for the year.

Pierre Trip:  Lee and Kathy, Ken and Barb, Cliff and Lisa and Dan and Carol drove to Pierre on December 19^th to view the Christmas decorations at the Capitol building.  They ate lunch at Perkins and were back in Rapid City by the end of the day.

Christmas Party:   The Christmas party at the K Bar S Lodge in Keystone was postponed for a week and will be held this Saturday, January 30^th.  For everyone that had a room reservation they were transferred to this Saturday.  If anyone else would like to stay at the Lodge on Saturday night, call 666-4545 and mention that you are with the Corvette Club, the rate is $69.99.

We will meet at the Lodge anytime after 2 PM for a social gathering before the meal.  The meal will be served at 6 PM and we will have the gift exchange after the meal.  If you haven’t already signed up and paid for the meal but would like to come to the Christmas party email me by Thursday evening so we can get an accurate count to K Bar S.

Counts Car Show:  Bill Naugle is getting everything lined up for the Counts Car Show on March 5^th, 6^th and 7^th.  We will have 6 C3 Corvettes in our display, including a 68 Corvette Race Car.  We will have a signup sheet at our February meeting so everyone can sign up to help man our booth during the car show.  Bill Naugle made a motion to pay half of the registration for each of the 6 cars that will be in our display, Bill K seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.  The registration is $40 per car so the Corvette Club will be paying $20 per car.  The registration forms are available on the Counts of the Cobblestone website, www.countscarclub.com.

Upcoming events:  There are several car shows this summer that we are looking into, the Custer car show in July, the West Des Moines car show in September and the car show in Scottsbluff, Ne.  More information will follow on the events.  We are also looking into a possible trip to Ankeny, Iowa to view a private car collection of we can get it lined up.

Meeting: The December meeting will be held at the Alpine Inn in Hill City on Thursday, December 10^th at 6:30 PM.  Please RSVP if you are planning on attending the December meeting so that I can get reservations set up.  Please RSVP by November 30^th.

Past Events: Special Thanks to Bob and Kim for hosting our annual Thanksgiving Dinner on November 7^th.  We had a great turnout and the food was wonderful!

Upcoming Events:  Kim has agreed to set up our 2010 Black Hills Corvette Calendar.  If you would like your car in the calendar please email Kim your picture by November 23^rd.  
 

We had to change the date of the Christmas party at the K Bar S Lodge to Saturday, January 23^rd.   I would like to get an idea of how many people are interested in attending, please email me if you are planning on attending so I can put some tentative numbers together for the party.  I will send more information about the food, etc. in another email.

Lee is planning on leading the club to Pierre in December to see the Christmas Decorations in the Capitol building.  We would leave on Saturday morning, eat lunch in Pierre, spend the afternoon at the Capitol Building and then drive home later in the day.  I will send more details in December.

The Counts Car Show is scheduled for March 5^th, 6^th and 7^th.  Bill Naugle has agreed to head up our display for the show.  We will be showing all C3 Corvettes for the show.

Dues for 2010 will again be $20, you can pay Bob at any time, dues are officially due at the January meeting.

We had 29 people at our November meeting at the Gaslight; Eunice won the 50/50 drawing of $16.00.

Below is a recipe from the Thanksgiving Dinner that was requested:

Frosted Cranberry Squares

One 13 ½ ounce can (1 2/3 cups) crushed pineapple

Two 3 ounce packages of lemon flavored gelatin

One 7 ounce bottle (about 1 cup) ginger ale

       One 1 pound can (2 cups) jellied cranberry sauce

       One 2 ounce package dessert topping mix

       One 8 ounce package of cream cheese softened

       1/2  cup chopped pecans

Drain pineapple reserving syrup.  Add water to syrup to make 1 cup.  Heat until mixture is boiling.  Dissolve gelatin in hot liquid and cool.  Gently stir in Ginger Ale, chill until partly set.  Meanwhile blend drained pineapple and cranberry sauce.  Fold in gelatin mixture.  Turn into a 9 x 9 x 2 dish.  Chill until firm.  Prepare dessert topping according to package directions.  Fold in Cream Cheese and spread over gelatin.  Toast pecans in 1 Tablespoon margarine in moderate oven (350 degrees) about 10 minutes.  Sprinkle over the top of salad.  Chill-Makes 9 servings.

Past Events:  Bruce and Susan lead a cruise through the Black Hills on September 27^th.  Eleven cars joined up for the day with 7 Corvettes from the Chadron Corvette Club and 4 Corvettes from the Black Hills Corvette Club.

Upcoming Events:  Bob and Kim will be hosting our annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday, November 7^th at their home at 13007 Overlook Drive at 2 PM.  The Turkey, drinks, plates and silverware will be provided.  Please email Bob and Kim to let them know that you will be coming and what dish you will be bringing to share.

We will be meeting at the Alpine Inn on Thursday, December 10^th at 6:30 PM.  More details to follow in the November newsletter.

The Christmas party is being planned for Saturday, January 16^th at the K Bar S Lodge in Keystone.  The date has changed from the previous newsletter.  We are planning on having a choice of Pot Roast or Chicken Veronique for dinner and a dessert will be included with the meal.  More details later.

The Counts Car Show is scheduled for March 5, 6, and 7, 2010.  We are planning on having all C3 Corvettes for our entry.

Meeting:  The October meeting will be held on Thursday, October 8^th at Thirsty’s  in Rapid City at 6 PM.

Past Events:  Six couples from the Black Hills Corvette Club attended the 15^th anniversary of the National Corvette Museum during the week of Labor Day in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  We caravanned with cars from South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois with the total of the Midwest caravan totaling 300 Corvettes.

Special thanks to Dave and Melinda for making the name tags for the club.

Upcoming Events:  On September 27^th, Bruce and Susan are planning a day trip originating at their house in Hot Springs.   They plan to leave the house at 10 Am, go to Custer via the Wind Cave route, to Newcastle via Hells Canyon, to Spearfish via Spearfish Canyon with lunch possibly at the Chophouse, then take the frontage road to Hwy of I90 at exit 17 towards Deadwood,  then to Sturgis via Boulder Canyon then thru Vanocker Canyon and back to Custer/Hot Springs for supper. If you are interested in going on this ride please email Bruce.

Lee is planning a fall colors run on October 4^th or 11^th depending on when the colors begin to change.  More information to follow.

Bob and Kim will again have Thanksgiving Dinner at their house on November 7^th for the club.  We will follow up with more information at the October meeting.

Lee is planning the December meeting at the Alpine Inn in Hill City.

The Christmas party will be held on January 9^th at the K Bar S lodge in Keystone.  We will follow up more information at the next meeting.

Roger has the trip planned to Montana on September 19-21^st.  They will be leaving from Sturgis at 8 AM from the Exxon station at exit 32.  The plan is to drive to Red Lodge, Montana on Saturday and spend the night, then on to Livingston, Montana on Sunday to spend the night and then back to Sturgis via Hwy 212 on Monday.  Five cars have contacted Roger to go on the trip.  If you are interested in going contact Roger right away.

Meeting: The September meeting will be held on Thursday, September 10^th at Sanford’s in Rapid City at 6 PM.

Old Business:  On August 25^th the club had a poker run to Custer with seven Corvettes attending.  We traveled to Custer to the car show and then drove to Pringle and back to Custer for supper at the Bavarian Inn.  Chuck won $25 for the high poker hand, Dan won $20 for the low poker hand and Cliff and Lisa's car was picked by the Bavarian Inn as their favorite to win $9.

Upcoming Events: On Sunday, August 23^rd, we will meet for breakfast at Cadillac Jack’s in Deadwood at 8 Am and then watch the car parade and show and shine on Main Street for Kool Deadwood Nights.

On Sunday, August 30^th, five couples from the club will be leaving for the 2009 Corvette Caravan to bowling green.  We are expecting approximately 75 cars from South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota that will be caravanning.   They are expecting anywhere from 6,000 to 7,000 people in Bowling Green with approximately 3500 Corvettes attending the 15^th anniversary celebration of the Corvette Museum.

On Saturday, September 26^th, Bear Country will be holding the 4^th annual Wild Wheels All Car Show & Shine from 1 to 6 PM.  There is a $20 registration fee to enter a car, with Bears, Beer and Brats, Live Music and Vendors and Activities.

Karla won $16.50 in the 50/50 drawing at the August meeting.

Just For Fun:  Carol’s Corvette had a dead battery in her garage and she called the mechanic’s shop.  Since she had to go to work she told the manager, “I’ll leave the key under the mat.  Fix the Corvette, leave the bill on the counter and I will send you a check.”

“Oh, by the way, don’t worry about my dog Spike.  He won’t bother you.  But, whatever you do, do NOT, under any circumstances, talk to my parrot.”  “I REPEAT; DO NOT TALK TO MY PARROT!!” 

When the mechanic arrived at Carol’s he discovered the biggest, meanest looking dog he has ever seen.  But, just as she had said, the dog just lay there on the floor watching the mechanic go about his work.  The parrot however drove him nuts the whole time with his incessant yelling, cursing and name calling.  Finally the mechanic couldn’t contain himself any longer and yelled, “Shut up, you stupid, ugly bird!!”

To which the bird replied, “Get him, Spike!”

Meeting: The August Meeting will be on Thursday, August 13^th at Canyon Lake Park.  We have the last picnic shelter reserved for the meeting, (this is the shelter along Park Drive).  The club will supply chicken, plates, napkins and utensils, Bob and Kim  will get these items.  Everyone should bring their own drinks and a potluck dish to share.

Old Business:  On Saturday, June 27^th, the club went to the matinee at the Black Hills Playhouse and then to the Powderhouse in Keystone for supper. 

The July Meeting was a picnic that was held at Larry and Darlene.  Thanks to Larry and Darlene for hosting the club for the picnic and meeting. 

Upcoming Events:  The Black Hills Corvette Classic is July 15^th in Sioux Falls and July 16^th through the 18^th in Spearfish.  If anyone is interested in going to Sioux Falls on Wednesday for Hot Summer Nights and then caravanning back to Spearfish on Thursday, please email me at dkcasanova@rap.midco.net.  We will be leaving on Wednesday morning to get to Billion Chevrolet for the Corvette gathering from 1 to 4.  Hot Summer Nights is from 5:30 to 10:00 PM in Downtown Sioux Falls.

For the Spearfish Classic we will be meeting at the Whiskey Chophouse at 6PM on Thursday, July 16^th for supper.  The Whiskey Chophouse is just a couple of blocks down Spearfish Canyon.  On Thursday night the Corvettes will be parked at the Holiday Inn.

Friday night is Vette Street from 5:30 to 9 PM.  We will meet at Shoot the Bull Steakhouse in Spearfish at 5 PM. 

On Saturday, July 25^th, Larry Bailly will coordinate a poker run.  We will meet at Reptile Gardens at 1 PM and travel to Custer to view their car show which ends at 3 PM.  The club is sponsoring $50 in prizes.

On Saturday, August 15^th, we will go the Wind Cave as part of the free National Park weekend.  Karen is working on coordinating this and will get us exact details later.  We will leave around noon and end up having supper somewhere in the Southern Hills.

Roger is looking into a fall colors run to Cody, Wyoming and Red Lodge, Montana.  More details to follow later.

Just for fun:  This guy gets to the Pearly Gates, and Saint Peter says, “Now wait just a moment, before I let you in, I need to ask you, have you ever done anything to put others first, or defended the innocent, things like that?”

The man answers, “Why yes, I saw this man with a Corvette by the side of the road, and he was yelling at his wife so I walked up to him and screamed at him to leave her alone, and if he didn’t I’d kick his head like this…..and I kicked his driver’s door on that Corvette.”

Saint Peter answers, “Wow, that’s pretty good, when did you do that?”

The man answers, “Oh, about 4 minutes ago.”

Larry B. reviewed the events of the past year that the club was involved in . 

The membership approved reimbursing Mike $19.01 for the Black Hills Corvette Club domain name for our website.

It was also approved that the club pay for the flowers for Mary Jackson and also approved donating $200

in memory of Mary for a memorial.

The end of year drawing for the 50/50 money saw the following winners:  Dan C. $60; Cliff $40;

Clara $25 and Mike D. $25.
